My friend John

What is a friend? How do you define friendship? You meet people all the time and mostly you pass on by like ships passing in the night. But sometimes you meet someone and something clicks, some say its chemistry, who knows? But something does click and when it happens you become friends for life.

That is what happened when I first met John. My wife Rosemary and I had bought our first flat in Pine Lodge on the Tonbridge Rd in Maidstone. A few months later the newly married John & Monica moved into their flat just round the corner. We became friends straight away and I remember the countless occasions when John had us in hysterics with his antics and the numerous nightly visits to the Chequers Inn, Yalding.

Over the years we didn’t have regular physical contact, Rose and I moved to South Africa, but we still kept in touch. When we came back to the UK, we met up again and it was as if we had never been away. And once again we enjoyed the loving friendship we had missed. Over the years, again due to distance and growing families etc, we met now and again. Not often, but it makes no odds, the bond of friendship is unbreakable. From the first time I met John he was like a member of my family:- on that day I gained a brother.

And I also gained a sister, we are here for you Mon.
